Blue Light Kings Lynn Shrimpers

Kings Lynn Shimpers, Norfolk, England

I used a limited palette for this large 15" x 22" inch loose watercolour painting of Kings Lynn Shrimpers, Norfolk. I wanted to capture the blue light and atmosphere of the shrimp boats that are on a knife's edge in terms of survival as going concerns. The hazy distance sharpens the focal point boats even more. A minimal palette of ultramarine blue, burnt umber, Neutral tint and raw sienna were used. 

Bridge over the Seine, Paris, France

The winter trees act as a frame for the two lamps on the bridge. Tiny figures crossing the bridge give scale and size. The bulding in the background are reduced to simple shapes without detail. The reflection of the brdige in the Seine is an important part of this composition. It suggests a grimy misty atmosphere so typical of Paris in winter.

Farmhouse on the Norfolk Broads

I painted this one last year in March. The Norfolk Broads is a very inspiring location for painters. This picture has all the classic elements - farm and out buildings, trees welded to main focal point, cattle, meandering river to lead the eye into the picture, big sky, and fields. I focused on strong counter-change throughout the painting.
