Impressionist Watercolour of People #1

Eros, London, England - 16" x 24"

Most of my watercolours are painted on Saunders Waterford paper, but now and again I select Arches, as in this case. I wanted to capture the hustle and bustle of people going about their business in this hugely popular London attraction. My overall aim was to keep everything simple, and reduce detail to give an impression of movement. Notice the lack of detail in the faces, too. It creates more anonymity, so typical of city life.

Abandoned Factory, Sedge Fen, Norfolk

Abandoned Factory at Sedge Fen, Norfolk, England  22" x 15"
This painting was completed in 45 minutes. I tried to keep everything simple - just shapes and shadows really. It was mid-summer, hot and great fun to paint. I love these old structures that are a throwback to a bygone age. Notice the counter-change of the white roof and suggested middle ground dark green bush. The telegraph poles help with the illusion of recession and depth.

Early Morning, King's Lynn Quay, Norfolk

An early morning jaunt along the quay in King's Lynn, Norfolk. A very peaceful and pleasant painting location. My main focus was the hazy atmosphere and the warm light. This location has lots of historic buildings, and I tried to paint them without fuss or too much detail. Painted on Saunders Waterford 300gms (140lb) rough paper.
